Incorrect licencing in the winget repo?
ImprovementQuestion
Hey just checked winget and nixpkgs repo for yaak package and it seems like licence is listed incorectly.
nixpkgs bellow screenshots for winget
Winget: To install the package it uses prebuilt binary but lists the package as MIT licenced. See screenshots.
nixpkgs:
Nixpkgs build from source as you can see in the screenshot (didnt check the hash for version of the package) but due to how nixpkgs work that build is then cached in nixpkgs online cache and distribiuted already build. (based on what i know).
Windows2026.8.1 and previous
Technically correct: the MIT license covers the source, while the official binaries follow the terms of service. The winget manifest is maintained in Microsoft’s winget-pkgs repo, not by Yaak, so a pull request there is the way to fix it. nixpkgs builds from source, so MIT is right for that one.
