They currently split based on the width of the window but it might be nice to have a setting to force either configuration.

Would absolutely love to see this be toggle-able. I default to that view with other clients so it plays nicer with my tiling window managers, and forcing the window to be small to achieve this is not idea.

+1 I do see it goes vertical for a super narrow window but having this go for larger windows or just be a toggleable option would be ideal.
